Classroom 16!

The Classroom of Mr. Stathis

Mare Island Health and Fitness Academy

Reader's Theater: For Want of a Nail

In Classroom 16, students develop Public Speaking confidence, Team Work, and many qualities of reading skills in the method arranged by Mr. Stathis for elocution of Poems, Speeches, and Sections of Dramatic Literature.

In the following Photos, students are practicing and presenting: "For Want of a Nail." The traditional poem, with Mr. Stathis's own twist on it; the second half being his own, turning the desperate ending of the original into a positive twist on each original stanza, throwing in a line of Shakespeare in the middle!

Learning to cooperate in their group, and relying on one another, assisting one another, etc., advances student social development and the kind of skills that will serve them well in life in varying life circumstances.

Following Group Practice outside, students return to the Classroom to present!

Students in presenting are "Rated" on 5 elocution qualities for the Team performance on a scale of 1 to 5 for: Posture, Volume, Sequencing, Unity, and Expression. As the rating for each quality is discussed by Mr. Stathis following a student team presentation, students gain positive reinforcement for their effort where these developing qualities are shown, and learn how to present better in the future, growing in all the qualities.

Classmates respectfully listen to their fellow classmates' presentations.
